Rabbit in the (Blue) Moon

in

I have loads of free time at home here in Okazaki, and especially now that we started getting lots of rain I don't really feel like riding my bike around in it. For your listening pleasure, here is a truly masterful play-list of Blue Moon adaptations....

gender issues

Many times my private lesson students will bring in material from outside of class to get help with. Recently, one of my students brought in an article about a intoxicated women who had fallen onto a subway track in Boston(?) right before the subway pulled into the station. The driver stopped just centimeters short of the lady. An onlooker and the driver helped the lady out of the track pit.

Good-bye Halloween

in

Today was the final day in a week long stint of Halloween lessons where I got to don a hot pink wig and witch costume. The wig was from a 100 Yen store...purchased for about 405 Yen, and the hat from Claire's at the mall. The dress I had brought from Atlanta for whatever special occasion might occur. I wish I could post pictures...but since I'm with my kids (students), I might need special permission from the parents or something. Ooooh but everyone looked so cute! Mostly witches, pumpkins and princesses, with the occasional little sparkly devil horns or the mini Halloween hat.

Fushimi Inari

I think Fushimi Inari shrine was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. Four hours in the rain negotiating hundreds of stairs through and by thousands of Tori gates and Inari statues everywhere. It was amazing.

I've started a gallery of the trip but it is no where near complete, please excuse some of the blurred pics, I was walking in the rain and taking pictures casually.

Inari Fox Sculpture

Kyoto

Michael and I will be spending a couple days in Kyoto this week. We have reservations at this bed and breakfast:

I love the pictures of the kids modeling the rooms.

The list of sights we want to see include:

Kiyomizu dera temple

Fushimi Inari shrine (tori gates and the fox-god Inari)
